They are a group of 80 small farmers and together they are in charge of 350 hectares divided in 320 hectares for farming and 30 hectares for roads.

Local authorities like intendenta María Loreto Letelier, minister of agriculture Ignacio Walker and senator Durana went to pampa Concordia to see by themselves what improvements should be made to the facilities in order to increase the productivity.

The group of 80 small farmers have 4 hectares each  divided equally between them where they grow tomatoes, bell peppers, green beans, onions, cucumbers, melons among other vegetables, the problem is the lack of irrigation water, they only have enough for 2 of the 4 hectares, half of the land they have.

Juan Cárdenas raised the requests to the authorities in representation of the farmers and said that a biggest hydric resource is needed, also electricity and potable water all this in order to keep developing as a rural community.

He also add the “we are proudly farming in 80 hectares even though we lack of some basic services and we are looking for new sources of water.

At the end of the visit made by the authorities they talked very impressed by the new value of the land given by the work of the farmers and intendenta María Loreto Letelier said “we have great weather all the year this allow the farmers produce all year long”

On other side the ministry of agriculture said “is a task of the state to provide resources for this kind of industry, we witnessed a wonderful example of farming in a very difficult land that success thanks to the effort of these farmers”

Senator Durana told that president Piñera is very committed with this project as a part of the “living borders” project.  he also add that “ we are very happy because in less than a month we are giving the message that our government is in action and want to help people, like this families”

Senator Durana formed a work table with the farmers and other authorities in order to give importance to pampa Concordia considered nowadays the 3rd most important agricultural valley in Arica and Parinacota.

Authorities also visited the the crops from dowdupont pionner Arica in order to see in terrain the work of the enterprise in pampa Concordia and the improvements in the production of seeds.
